Our Heritage
Our story begins with a shared vision to create downtown spaces and concepts that intersect heritage and functionality.
Seeded in 1959
Established in 2021
Born out of an earnest desire to disrupt the trend of generic, inefficient, use of city spaces in favor of creating unique, community-centric destinations, Coterie was founded by Mohamed Abdel-Meguid and Karim Mahmoud.

Fueled by a genuine belief in adaptive reuse and inspired by a 3-generation legacy of industry experience gained through the involvement with Sigma Properties (est.1959), they set out to re-imagine the downtown landscape as vibrant downtown spaces, concepts, and brands, honoring culture and heritage, and genuinely serving the communities in which they are embedded.
Our motive
As lifetime residents of Alexandria and Cairo, creating spaces and concepts that serve modern life and work and embody the enduring historical wisdom and esthetic of the great cosmopolitans is a labour of love as much as a business endeavour.
Designing a future of continual progress
The culture of Coterie is built upon our company values. Our values are the guiding principles that we strive towards, hold dear, and that inform our work and interactions with each other and the world.
